Pakistan will reach the first or second position in all formats very soon: Abdul Razzaq

Pakistani Former cricketer Abdul Razzak reckons that the national team has the potential to claim the top or second spot in all the formats.

At the present point in time, Babar Azam and Co are ranked fourth, sixth and fifth in T20Is, ODIs, and Test cricket respectively. Razzaq feels that Pakistan’s attributes in all three departments have shown a great deal of improvement.

Razzaq, who’s also the coach of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said that Pakistan needs to take a leaf out of the books of the top teams in their rebuilding phase.

“We only have to look at the likes of South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka and England who are now in the middle of a similar rebuilding phase as us. We saw how South Africa are faring of late, so thankfully Pakistan is not at that stage and I am very happy that our batting, bowling and fielding has shown a marked improvement,” Razzaq was quoted as saying to Pak Passion.

“To me, the secret to reaching the first or second position in ICC’s rankings in all formats is to improve in all three facets, in much the same way as Australia was dominating all other teams about 20 years ago. I am hopeful that the way things are going, Pakistan will reach the first or second position in all formats very soon,” he added.

On Friday, May 7, Pakistan are set to play their second Test against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. In the first Test, the visiting team won by an innings and 116 runs.

Hasan Ali became the Player of the Match for picking up nine wickets in the game and also scoring 30 with the bat in hand.

The game was also memorable for Fawad Alam, who made 140 runs with 20 fours in the first innings.

Imran Butt, who made his debut earlier this year, scored 91 runs, and Shaheen Afridi also managed to get four wickets. Pakistan also won the three-match T20I series 2-1.
